When I Look Up at My Mum I See is a female empowerment children’s picture book that celebrates the power of mothers embracing who they truly are.
It invites honest conversations with our children about identity, self-expression and the woman behind the role of “Mum”.
When mothers proudly stand in their truth, they inspire their children to do the same, creating a powerful legacy that can shape generations.

About the Author
When I look up at my Mum I see was created after Tao noticed strong subliminal messaging perpetuating the idea that a mother’s worth is dependent on what she does for her children, be it the cleaning, tucking them in at night, or kissing their ‘boo boos’, and not who she is as a woman.
“I was frustrated by the stories sold every Mother’s Day. They focused on what mothers do, but rarely on who they are as women.
I wanted something deeper, something that honoured the strength, spirit and many layers of modern motherhood through the eyes of a child. So in 2021, I self-published a story to give voice to that truth.”
Through this book, Tao hopes to ignite meaningful conversations about how we view and value Mothers, not only in the home but also in wider society.
